a daughter's gratitude

this is my ambitious attempt at writing about honoring the woman whose love and compassion is untiring and limitless. i know it's bad of me to even wait for this special day to put in writing at how wonderful a mom she is. nevertheless, this entry is to make this manifestation, as we pay tribute to the most special woman in our lives this mothers' day.

raising a middle-class family is quite a challenge. where income is solely derived from the compensation papa and mama get from their employers, you can imagine how it was such a task for them to provide the basic needs of the family, while at the same time not having to let the children worry about it. somehow, it was a comfortable life growing up-- new dresses every christmas, school bags and supplies were replinished every start of the school year, having pf tender juicy hotdogs on the breakfast table, and even sending us to reputable universities for college. looking back, i wonder how could papa and mama afforded these despite the meager salary they used to earn? as they say, behind every great man is a woman... i say, behind every happy home is a mother who works it all out for the family. so that answers!

she is 56. with God's grace, still very healthy, warm, does not tire and still has that same welcoming smile. i often wonder where she gets that unlimited energy she obviously have. up to now, she is everywhere at home, you cannot catch her take a seat longer than 2 mins, excpet when she eats. while she has a 7am-5pm work on weekdays, she still cleans the house once she arrives from the office then gets herself busy preparing for dinner (read: no househelper). at 8pm, papa and mama leaves home to go to the city for lolo-lola visitation to the lovely apo. talk about juggling career and family, and all things in between. i have not even mentioned how her strength of character was so admirable when his boys took a wrong turn at one point of their lives and how she has has guided them all back to the path. truly, a mother's love never fails and never gives up, even when everyone else has.

mama, i thank the Lord each time for giving me the best mom i can ever have. i want you to know that i appreciate every little thing you do for the family. though at times i may have nagged you or pick at the trivial things you do, know that i feel sorry everytime i do that to you. for the many times papa and i tease you, know that they are our ways of endearment to you. hahaha and now that i have become a mother to sofia, my admiration and respect to you soared even higher. it takes a lot in me to have and raise her, how much more with you that you had to tend to us four. i can only wish that i become even just half of what you are. mama, i love you. i know you are happy now because of what your children have become. you and papa are starting to reap the fruits of your labor. indeed, your children become the best testament of how well you have strived for us. thanks to you and papa for all the sacrifices and enduring through it all.

you become the best mother because of me, and i because of sofia.

P.S. i know you can read this ma because obviously you have discovered this blog. ohhhh that mother's instinct!
